New work for Little Big Show
I have created 8 new encaustic pieces for this years Little Big Show in Baker City Oregon in August. You had better get there for first Friday and run to see all our work in various galleries around town if you want first dibs.
The August 2018 Little Big Show will open August 3rd in Baker City, Oregon and goes through the month.
No matter how famous or fabulous, every original work of art is $40.00 each. Pieces can only be bought during the show at four different sites: Short term Gallery, Crossroads Art Center, Copper Belt Tasting Room, and Peterson’s Gallery. If you want it, you better grab it and buy right away!
I spent a month taking an art retreat in New Meadows Idaho. I was house sitting for some good friends. It was a special time and great to be near all the hot springs, have use of their Jacuzzi jet tub and Far infrared sauna. They have a beautiful home and a great set up for my traveling workshop space, a 3 car garage to use for my encaustic studio plus a huge craft room as well. I have been is 7th heaven here this month.
This year I did some realistic style pieces as well as abstract style pieces. I really enjoyed creating these 8 pieces, it is a good number of pieces to get completed.
Encaustic is created by melting tree sap resin and beeswax as a medium and applying it to a wood substate. Pure pigment is added for various colors. Each layer is fused with a heat gun or torch to fuse them permanently together. When the painting is finished it is polished with a soft rag to a high gloss finish. No glass is used and they are usually on a cradled wood panel or MDF board or on paper.
